Arkansas-Oklahoma Railroad – Harrah, Oklahoma
Excursion Coordinators (EC): Drake Rice firstname.lastname@example.org 405-478-3225
This will be a trip on the Arkansas-Oklahoma Railroad (A-OK) from Harrah, OK traveling westward on the ex-Rock Island Railroad trackage that A-OK operates to Midwest City, Ok and then return through Harrah and on to Shawnee, OK and return to Harrah. Total mileage will be 68 miles round Trip.
Set On Location: Main Street crossing, at the Harrah Museum in the old Rock Island Depot, Harrah, OK. Directions: Main Street runs east/west, 1 block east of Business US 270 the major street through Harrah in the heart of the downtown area. This is a side street and parking is available at the Jorski Mill (however we cannot block customers from coming in) which is the tallest structure in town. The set on crossing is two lanes but this is a very low use street, but it is a Saturday so flaggers will be needed for safety issues while off loading and on loading our equipment. We hope to be able to park our trucks and trailers in the parking lot at the grain elevator which is at the crossing. Permission is being sought from the owner to use their area.
Start Set On: 8:30 AM
Safety Meeting: 9:15 AM
Departure: 9:30 AM
Approximate Return: 4:00 PM
From the set on location in Harrah (mile post 466.1) we will go west towards Oklahoma City to (mp 480.0), where we will have a turn-around point. We will then return east to Choctaw, OK for break. In Choctaw several places across the street from the tracks for break activities. After a short break we will proceed east back through Harrah to Shawnee, Oklahoma (mp 448.0). There we will turn around and break for lunch. There are a few restaurants close to the tracks, you can purchase your lunch in Choctaw or bring it with you with you. Lunch break will be 1 hour. Then we will proceed back to Harrah. Since this is a Saturday, many urban and rural crossings, traffic may be heavy so we will need to be alert.
