The Oklahoma Railway Museum will be offering train rides for school children this spring.  The museum has worked hard to be able to offer this as an activity for school children to experience riding on a railroad passenger car or caboose.

Since the school year is half over, it might be time to think about a spring activity trip, give some thought to stopping by the Oklahoma Railway Museum.  Our spring 2010 operating dates are Thursday and Fridays, beginning April 15 and 16, through May 6 and May 7.  Train times will be at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The cost for the ride is $5.00 per person with teachers and bus drivers riding free. Acceptable means of payment are cash, check, or Visa and Master Card. As the Museum is a working railroad with heavy equipment, for safety reasons we request that you have one adult for every 10 students.

The museum operates historic equipment with the newest equipment, a caboose,  that was built in 1958.  The passenger equipment was built between 1918 and 1942 for different railroads in the United States.  The cars have been refurbished and are used by the museum in its operations.  The museum has maximum seating capacity for 272 adult passengers on these trains.  Since this is historic railroad equipment, it is not ADA compliant.

The trains will operate out of Historic Oakwood Depot (1908) at the museum and return using either at 1941 or 1954 diesel locomotive.  The trip time would be approximately 35 minutes with a pull-push operation. The museum will also provide Highway Rail Grade Crossing Safety information designed for the age of the students. Estimated time spent at the museum would be around an hour and half depending on questions.  Museum personnel would be around to visit with the students and give information about the static displays.

The Museum does not have picnic facilities however Lincoln Park is a nearby picnic location for the students.  There are also other museums nearby to visit such as the Fire Fighters Museum, National Softball Hall of Fame, and the 45th Infantry Museum.
